More Fashion Magazines!

Good Sunday morning!

It feels really great to be back on this blog with a new posting!

In my last article, I mentioned that I had recently bought my first copy of Esquire.

In fact, in addition to Esquire, I had also bought my very first copies of GQ, DETAILS, and MEN'S VOGUE.

It is indeed a lot of fun to browse through these glossy American fashion magazines!

Lots of the ads they carry are for the same brands, but it doesn't hurt to see those ads again and again as I switch from magazine to magazine, as these ads are really cool and downright sophisticated!

Volume-wise, the thickest magazine among these three is GQ, followed by DETAILS, with MEN'S VOGUE being the thinnest.

However, curiously enough, in terms of their prices (newsstand price here in Singapore), the order is exactly the opposite, with MEN'S VOGUE costing the most, followed by DETAILS and GQ.

Sadly for the fans of MEN'S VOGUE, I read it on the Internet just yesterday that this magazine is closing its doors (view this article), and will henceforth become a seasonal supplement to VOGUE. The December/January issue will be the last issue sent to its subscribers. I'll be sure to get a copy at the newsstand before it's sold out!

Not being much of a reader, with these fashion magazines I focus mainly on the pictures rather than on the text of their feature articles.

The imagery is indeed inspiring and stimulating for me, and as I leafed through the pages, I've become more convinced than ever that these magazines are indeed works of art, and I definitely get more than my money's worth from these delightful publications.

In the coming weeks, I will look at these magazines again and again, be it during the break from my daily French learning or when I am flossing my teeth before going to bed. I'm sure that the imagery will slowly but surely seep into my subconscious mind, and my sartorial taste will be honed day by day!

I can't wait to make some delightful additions to my wardrobe in the coming months!

Will definitely keep trying, and let my frumpy self become a thing of the past!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, and have a prosperous new week ahead!

Hi Shacho,

Hello again! It's so nice to have you back, as always!

In fact, all of these magazines are famous competitors of Esquire. If I'm not mistaken, GQ also has its Japanese edition.

It's really an eye-opening experience to read these magazines.

You can really learn a lot from them, even if you look at the pictures only without reading the text. Those strong images definitely speak louder than words!

As such, despite the fact that each of these magazines can easily set you back around JPY 1,000, I think it's well worth the investment amount.

Either way, I will definitely keep you up-to-date on my new discoveries as I read along!

Talk to you again soon!

Cheers,
Uncle Polyglot

Hi, Uncle Polyglot

You Rock! You changed the setting of your blog. I'm glad I can finally post my message.

Wow! you spend a lot of time studying French, but you still enjoy reading books/maganizes on other subjects. You always amaze me.

Hi Dion,

(Please allow me to put in this disclaimer first for addressing you in a yobisute manner on this blog. This is to be fair to my non-Japanese readers.)

Thank you for visiting my English blog again! It's great to hear from you, as always!

As you've noticed, I have changed the comment settings on this blog such that anyone can put in their comments henceforth. It's really cool that I can now get your comments and feedback first-hand on this blog!

As you already know, I've been quite busy with my French learning recently, but I still need to have fun every once in a while. As they say: all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!

Fashion and grooming is definitely one of my areas of interest, and I'd really like to study up on this area. Besides, there is always a huge benefit in keeping your appearance presentable at all times: if you look good, you feel good, and if you feel good, you do good, be it in your workplace or in your private life!

I firmly believe that beauty is NOT skin-deep, and this applies not only to women, but to men as well. I will therefore not relent in my quest for achieving a good appearance!

Anyway, I'm really thrilled and thankful that you've taken the time to read my long article today! I'm really encouraged, and am determined to make this blog a more interesting read in the months to come!

It must be Sunday afternoon now in your time zone in the US. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and good luck with your Greek learning!

Talk to you again soon!

Cheers,
Uncle Polyglot

I think you should get the January edition of GQ with Jennifer Aniston on it.

Hi Keith,

Welcome back to my English blog!

I've also heard about the January issue of GQ with Jennifer Aniston on its cover!

It has yet to come to the newsstand in Singapore. I will certainly keep a lookout, and will get a copy as soon as it comes out!
